CHAPTER 05 / 09
Beyond the Classroom
“Study at PKU, Embrace China” Social Practice Program Invited Participant Sep 2026 Yunan, China Collapse description
I was honored to be selected as the sole student representative from the College of Engineering for Peking University’s international social practice program in Dali and Midu, Yunnan. Centered on rural revitalization and cultural heritage, this immersive experience allowed me to engage deeply with both local communities and a diverse cohort of international peers. A highlight of the trip was visiting Midu No.1 High School, where I spoke with senior students, shared my university journey, and gained invaluable insights into local Chinese perspectives. Exploring historical sites and ethnic villages not only broadened my understanding of contemporary rural development but also significantly strengthened my intercultural communication, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.
International Engineering Design & Innovation Workshop Participant Sep 2026 Beijing, China Collapse description
During the International Engineering Design & Innovation Workshop—organized by Peking University and led by Professor Peter Childs of Imperial College London—I led a four-member team in developing a project called "WindGuard." Recognizing the growing challenges in renewable energy maintenance, I originated a concept for an autonomous wind turbine inspection system that integrated condition monitoring, drone surveillance, and a hybrid flying-climbing robot for minor repairs. As the team lead, I coordinated our research, guided the engineering and business proposal development, and delivered the final presentation. Our project was ultimately recognized with the workshop’s only Outstanding Award. This achievement validated my ability to lead collaborative engineering work, transform an initial idea into a coherent technical proposal, and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Peking University GeekLab OneWHO Drone Club Core Member Feb 2025 – Sep 2026 Beijing, China Collapse description
During my year and a half as a core member of the university drone club, I co-taught our flagship course, "Building a Quadcopter Drone from Zero." I was responsible for preparing the curriculum and guiding students through quadcopter assembly and FPV simulator training. This experience deeply reinforced my own technical fundamentals while expanding my professional network and honing my public speaking skills. However, in May 2026, we faced a massive operational hurdle when new municipal regulations strictly banned drone flights in Beijing, resulting in the confiscation of our flight hardware and the suspension of the course. As my tenure in the club comes to a close and leadership transitions to a new cohort, I am incredibly proud of the foundation we built. I hope our past work and resilience will inspire the incoming members to navigate these regulatory challenges and find innovative ways to break through and keep the club's mission alive.
Zhejiang University & Affiliated Institute Visiting Student Researcher Jul 2025 Zhejiang, China Collapse description
During the summer of 2025, I was honored to be invited by my former Mathematical Analysis professor for a 5-day research immersion at Zhejiang University and an affiliated research institute. The visit began with tours of ZJU’s advanced laboratory facilities, hosted by his research partner, before transitioning into hands-on technical work at the institute. Working closely with a university senior conducting research at the institute, I configured a Linux-Ubuntu virtual environment on a Windows system to serve as our development hub. From there, I utilized Python to program flight controls directly onto a Linux-based drone microchip. This intensive, short-term opportunity opened my eyes to the practical realities of embedded systems research and significantly broadened my engineering horizons
Moscow Aviation Institution - Winter Camp Program Participant Feb 2025 Moscow, Russia Collapse description
I was honored to be selected for a joint winter aerospace program at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), organized in partnership with Peking University’s College of Engineering. The technical curriculum provided incredible hands-on exposure to physical aerospace systems, allowing me to study rocket engines, turbine blades, and diverse airframe structures up close. I also applied theory to practical design by modeling CubeSats in SolidWorks and running static structural simulations in Ansys Workbench. Beyond the engineering milestones, this trip was a profound cultural experience. As the only international student in the cohort, I built strong friendships with peers from PKU and Zhejiang University (ZJU). Exploring Moscow every evening—my first time traveling outside of Asia—gave me the chance to immerse myself in a completely new culture, connect with locals, and broaden my global perspective.
